HARLEQUIN

Harlequin is one of the most popular mask of the Italian tradition. It's a mask comes from Bergamo, but its origins date back to the Middle Ages known in France under the name of Arlequin an infernal spirit, but a funny ones. In companies of itinerant acrobats was always the joker who liked to make jokes to those present. ARLECCHINO

Arlecchino è di gran lunga la maschera più popolare della tradizione italiana. È una maschera bergamasca, ma le sue origini risalgono al Medioevo: noto in Francia con il nome di Arlequin rappresenta uno spirito infernale, uno spirito però burlone. Nelle compagnie dei saltimbanchi girovaghi era sempre il buffone che si divertiva a fare scherzi ai presenti. Arlecchino parla il dialetto delle sue zone, anche se poi ha mutato la parlata in veneto perché più aggraziato: il suo vestito in origine era bianco, come Pulcinella, poi i continui rattoppi hanno dato vita al celeberrimo costume multicolore. Arlecchino ha un carattere espansivo, si diverte a fare scherzi e burle a chiunque, soprattutto ai padroni avidi presso i quali è a servizio, purtroppo non è mai fortunato e le sue burle vengono sempre smascherate. Arlecchino non è uno stupido, anzi è dotato di tanta fantasia: ha una forte incompatibilità con il lavoro che cerca di evitare in ogni modo. Oltre che abile con la lingua è un ottimo acrobata ed è famoso per le sue capriole e piroette. Arlecchino è la più simpatica tra le maschere della tradizione del Teatro dell'Arte e ancora oggi a Carnevale è lui che anima i bambini presenti alle feste.
