THE LILY OF THE VALLEY

Lily of the Valley is a rhizomatous plant that grows wild and poisonous in mountain areas and foothills of the Italian regions. This plant is widespread in the rest of Europe, Asia and North America. This plant produces white flowers about 20 cm tall bell: they have a very strong scent and give rise to fruit about the size of a pea, round and red. In gardens and parks are usually grown as ornamental plants in shady places. Thrush is grown in pots, especially in winter. It is a plant widely used in perfumery although it is a poisonous plant. Thrush is often used for floral decorations for wedding bouquets and centerpieces: If you buy out of season it is a flower very expensive, so it is recommended to grow it at home and then combine it with tulips or roses. In the language of flowers, lily of the valley is synonymous with happiness and is given away as a good omen in France on the day of May. According to legend, St. Leonard had to fight against the devil; St. Leonard won, but the fight was very hard and the drops of blood fell on the ground turning into white bells.

IL MUGHETTO

Il Mughetto è una pianta rizomatosa e velenosa che cresce spontaneamente nelle zone alpine e prealpine delle regioni italiane. È una pianta diffusa anche nel resto d'Europa, dell'Asia e dell'America Settentrionale. Questa pianta produce dei fiori bianchi a campana alti circa 20 centimetri: hanno un profumo molto forte e danno origine a dei frutti grandi circa come un pisello, tondi e di colore rosso. Nei giardini e nei parchi vengono solitamente coltivati in luoghi ombrosi come piante ornamentali. Il mughetto viene coltivato anche in vaso, specialmente in inverno. È una pianta molto usata in profumeria nonostante sia una pianta velenosa. Il mughetto è utilizzato spesso anche per le decorazioni floreali dei matrimoni, nei bouquet e nei centrotavola: se è acquistato fuori stagione si tratta di un fiore molto costoso, è quindi consigliato coltivarlo in casa per poi abbinarlo a tulipani o rose. Nel linguaggio dei fiori il mughetto è sinonimo di felicità e viene regalato come buon augurio in Francia il giorno del Primo Maggio. Secondo la leggenda San Leonardo dovette combattere contro il demonio; San Leonardo vinse, ma il combattimento fu molto duro e le gocce di sangue caddero sul terreno trasformandosi in bianchi campanellini.
